Getting started with your GhostWing.
The five things most people ask in the first thirty minutes after opening the box.
Slide the battery out of the drone, plug the USB-C cable into the battery, and connect it to the included 18 W wall charger. A full charge from empty takes about 90 minutes. The charge indicator LED turns solid green when the battery is full. We recommend a full charge before your first flight.
Power on the drone first (long-press the power button until the status LEDs blink). Power on the controller. The controller emits a short tone when pairing is complete — usually within a few seconds. If pairing doesn't happen, move the controller within one meter of the drone and try again.
Search for "GhostWing FPV" in the App Store (iOS 14+) or Google Play (Android 9+). The app is free, contains no in-app purchases, and uses Wi-Fi to receive the live video preview. After install, open the app, follow the prompt to grant location permission (required by your phone's OS for Wi-Fi scanning), and connect to the drone's Wi-Fi network from your phone's Wi-Fi settings.
An open outdoor area at least 30 ft from people, pets, buildings, vehicles, and power lines. Grass or short turf is more forgiving than concrete if you set the drone down hard. Check the FAA's free B4UFLY app before flying to confirm the location isn't inside controlled airspace, a National Park, or other restricted area. Wait for a calm day with wind under about 10 mph.
Make sure the battery is fully charged and seated firmly. The status LED should be solid (not blinking). Move at least 5 ft from any large metal objects, which can interfere with the compass. If you've flown before, the firmware may require a brief compass-calibration dance the first time at a new location — the app prompts you through it. If problems persist, email support with your serial number.
Modes, batteries, and day-to-day use.
Practical guidance for getting more out of the drone and keeping it (and its batteries) in good shape.
The controller has a three-position mode switch on the top-left shoulder: Beginner (B), Standard (S), and Sport (Sp). The change takes effect immediately. We recommend staying in Beginner mode for your first several flights and only moving to Sport in open areas after you're comfortable with the controls.
If you're flying again within a week, charge the battery and store it in the carry case at room temperature. For longer storage (more than two weeks), charge the battery to about 50% — LiPo batteries last longer at partial charge than at full or empty. Avoid leaving batteries in a hot car or below freezing.
When the battery drops below the safety threshold (about 15%), the controller alerts you and the drone begins a slow descent in place. It lands straight down at the drone's current GPS-free position. Auto-land prevents the most common cause of crashes — pilots trying to squeeze one more minute of flight time out of a dying battery. You can override the auto-land by giving stick input, but we recommend letting it complete.
Fold the propeller arms back into the body of the drone, fold the controller's joysticks, and place both in the zip carry case along with one or two spare batteries. Store the case indoors at room temperature. Avoid attic or garage storage in summer — heat above 40 °C (104 °F) degrades the battery over time.
Yes. Each propeller is held on by a single small Phillips screw (the included screwdriver fits). The propellers are paired — match the markings (A or B) to the motor arms when you swap them. Always replace all four if you're changing one, since prop wear should be balanced across the airframe.
