Who the GW-1 is for, and who it isn’t.
A drone is a real piece of equipment. Here’s the plain-English version of who this one fits, and who would be better off with something else — so you don’t buy the wrong tool.
- Want to learn aerial photography without spending $700+ on a first drone
- Need a foldable drone you can actually bring on a hike or a trip
- Prefer to stay under the 250 g recreational registration threshold
- Are a Part 107 operator who wants a lightweight second aircraft for quick shoots
- Want clean 4K for personal video, real-estate cuts, or social posts
- Need cinema-grade footage with a mechanical gimbal and a 1-inch sensor
- Plan to fly in strong wind regularly — the GW-1 is not a heavy-weather drone
- Want a racing or freestyle quad — different category, different airframe
- Need to fly in rain or over open water — the GW-1 is not waterproof
- Need beyond-visual-line-of-sight or long-range mapping work
Everything you need, nothing you don’t.

Everything most people ask before buying.
Not for purely recreational flight. At 249 g, the GW-1 falls under the 250 g FAA recreational-registration threshold. If you fly for any non-recreational purpose (paid photography, real estate, inspections, social posts that earn income), you must register with the FAA and operate under Part 107 — those rules apply regardless of weight. Our FAA & safety page walks through both paths in plain English.
The GW-1 records 4K at 30 fps and 1080p at 60 fps through a 118° ultra-wide lens with electronic image stabilization. Footage is suitable for personal aerial photography, family video, and casual social posts. Higher-end drones (with mechanical gimbals and 1-inch sensors) deliver smoother stabilization and better low-light performance — but cost several times more and weigh more than the 250 g threshold.
