“I have a heavier drone for big shoots, but the GW-1 is the one that actually lives in my listing-day bag. Setup is fast and the 4K is more than enough for the MLS photos and the social cuts I post afterward. Battery swap in the field is the feature I didn't know I needed.”
A camera drone that fits in your backpack.
GhostWing GW-1 is a compact foldable drone with a 4K camera, designed for weekend aerial photography. Under 250 g, simple to launch, and small enough to bring along on a hike.
Four steps. No drone experience required.
No subscription, no app upsells, no proprietary cloud. Charge it, pick a safe spot, take off, land.
Built for recreational and light commercial use. Before you fly, check current FAA rules and any local restrictions for your area — links and a plain-English summary are on the FAA & safety page.
- 01Charge and pair
Charge the battery over USB-C in about 90 minutes. Pair the controller and the GhostWing FPV app to the drone over Wi-Fi.
- 02Pick an open area
Flat ground, no people or pets within 30 ft, no airspace restrictions. Use the B4UFLY app to double-check your location.
- 03One-key takeoff
Press the takeoff button on the controller. The GW-1 climbs to about 1.5 m and holds altitude until you give it a command.
- 04Fly, shoot, land
Photo, video, panorama. Press the land button (or wait for low-battery auto-land) and the drone descends straight down to where it took off.
One controller. Three response curves. No surprises.
Switch between Beginner, Standard, and Sport from the controller. Top speed and stick response change; safety features like altitude hold and low-battery auto-land stay on across all three.
Speed and yaw rate are reduced so the drone responds gently to stick input. The mode most first-time pilots learn on — the one we ship the GW-1 set to out of the box.
Balanced response across pitch, roll, and yaw. Good for casual photo and video work in calm-to-light wind conditions. Altitude hold stays active.
Top stick response and maximum 22 mph horizontal speed. Best used in open areas with experienced operators. Altitude hold remains on; obstacle avoidance is reduced.
Designed to come along, not stay home.
A foldable airframe, a backpack-friendly case, a battery you can swap in the field, and a controller that folds flat. The drone you actually bring on the trip.
- 249 g takeoff weight
- Sits just under the 250 g FAA recreational-registration threshold. Lighter is less paperwork — and easier to carry in a daypack.
- Foldable arms
- Folded, the GW-1 is roughly the size of a paperback novel. The included zip case fits in a backpack pocket.
- 4K UHD camera
- 3840 × 2160 at 30 fps for photo and video, with a 118° ultra-wide lens. Electronic image stabilization smooths handheld-style footage.
- Wi-Fi FPV to your phone
- Live 1080p preview to the GhostWing FPV app on iOS or Android. No separate screen to charge.
- One-key takeoff and landing
- Press once to launch, press once to land. Altitude hold keeps the drone steady whenever you let go of the sticks.
- Low-battery auto-land
- When the battery drops below the safety threshold, the drone descends to the ground at a controlled rate so you don't lose it mid-flight.
Honest numbers, published openly.
Camera resolution, flight time, takeoff weight, range, operating temperature — the figures you'd find on the box of any reputable consumer drone. Nothing rounded up, nothing implied.

“We didn’t want to sell another ‘tactical’ consumer drone. We wanted to make a small, honest aircraft — under 250 g, simple to fly, with the camera quality you’d actually use, and the registration and safety guidance written out plainly instead of buried.”

The GW-1 takes off at 8.8 oz (249 g), which is under the 250 g threshold for mandatory recreational registration. If you fly strictly for recreation under the FAA's recreational rules, registration is optional. If you fly for any non-recreational purpose (including paid photography or real-estate work), you must register with the FAA and operate under Part 107. See our FAA & safety page for the full breakdown.
Up to 15 minutes in calm conditions, flying at moderate speeds. Headwinds, low temperatures, and aggressive maneuvering all shorten flight time. A spare battery doubles your flight session — you can charge one while flying the other.
The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi FPV link reaches up to 300 m (985 ft) line-of-sight in interference-free environments. In urban areas with Wi-Fi congestion, expect less. The FAA rule for recreational flyers is to keep the aircraft within visual line of sight at all times — that limit usually arrives well before the link range does.
Every GhostWing GW-1 is covered by a 1-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects. Registration is optional — your order receipt is your proof of purchase. Crash damage is not covered. See the warranty page for full terms.

What people who’ve flown it have to say.
Three reviews from verified purchasers. We don't curate to only show five-star feedback — mixed reviews appear here too.
“First drone for me, and the under-250-g thing meant I didn't have to deal with registration to fly recreationally. Folded, it disappears in my pack. Spent the first three flights in Beginner mode and it was exactly the right amount of hand-holding.”
“I went in expecting phone-quality footage and got something a step better than that — clean 4K and the wide lens really helps on landscape shots. Four stars because the live-view to my phone glitches occasionally when there's a lot of wifi around, but the recordings themselves are fine.”
Reviews are from verified purchasers who agreed to share their feedback. We publish negative and mixed reviews alongside positive ones — see the full set on the product page over time. Names and locations are published with each reviewer’s consent.
